Not 100% confirmed, but it seems that after lengthy negotiations with various studies, it Sony who distribute the new Tarantino film in the international market, while The Weinstein Company will do the same with the U.S. market.
Tarantino met last week with all the great, except for Warner . Surprising that Universal was not who will take the upper hand, given the great results they had with Inglourious Basterds. In fact Universal executives met with QT last Friday and a carefully prepared staging for his visit which included, among other things, a bag of handmade hair, referring to the famous "100 Nazi scalps" of Inglourious Basterds. Very freaky.
Still, it seems that the international distribution (and co-funding) takes Sony . The critical reason is the linking of Will Smith with this company and the express wish Tarantino that he is the main protagonist of Unchained Django. Everyone seems to be clear that working with Sony is key to Smith climb aboard this film.
